How I Left My Job to Work From Home as a Mom

How I Left My Job to Work From Home as a Mom

There was a time when my days felt like a constant cycle of rushing.

Getting ready.
Getting out the door.
Balancing kids and everything in between.

And I was doing everything I was “supposed” to be doing…
but I was just exhausted and burnt out.

I kept thinking…there has to be a better way.

I wanted more presence.
More flexibility.
More space to actually be with my kids… not just squeeze in moments between everything else.

But I also knew I still needed to contribute financially.

So for a long time, I felt stuck between two worlds.

Working… but wanting to be home.
Home… but needing to work.

I didn’t have a clear plan at first.

I just knew I couldn’t keep doing things the same way.

So I started looking into ways to work remotely.

Not anything overwhelming.
Not anything that required me to go back to school or completely start over.

Just something simple.

Something flexible.

Something I could learn and grow into.

That’s when I came across something I hadn’t really considered before:

Remote work. It was 2025, so remote work had gained more traction since 2020, so I knew it was possible for me but I just didn’t know how or where to get started.

I knew this was something that wouldn’t require me to go back to school, start a business, or completely start over.

I wanted something that could be learned.
Something that could be done from home.
Something that actually fit into my life as a mom and not the other way around.

After looking into different options like medical coding and billing, which required going back to school or investing in expensive courses, I came across something that actually felt doable. For me, that was becoming an appointment setter.

I had never heard of this before, so, I had questions.

What is this? Would I be good at it?
Would it feel natural? Could I actually do this from home?

The Part I Didn’t Realize at First

What surprised me the most…was that I already had a lot of the skills.

Not from a job title.
Not from experience on paper.

But from everyday life.

As moms, we’re constantly:

  • communicating
  • listening
  • solving problems
  • helping people feel heard
  • guiding conversations

And that’s really what appointment setting is.

It’s not about being salesy.
It’s not about convincing people.

It’s about:

  • connecting
  • having conversations
  • and helping someone take the next step

When I started to see it that way…it felt less intimidating.

And more like something I could actually grow into.

What I learned was that you don’t need to be an expert.

You don’t need to have everything figured out.

If you can have a conversation,
if you can listen,
if you can respond with care…you already have the foundation.

Everything else can be learned and most have us have these transferable skills already from prior work we’ve already done.

I went into research and learning mode and learned everything I could on how to get started and transition out of my 9 to 5 and slowly, things started to shift.

I began to understand how it worked.
How to communicate.
How to connect.
How to turn conversations into opportunities.

And over time… with everything I had learned, I was ready to apply it. I had my first interview with a company, and I was offered an appointment setter position with them, which allowed me to finally leave my 9 to 5.

✨ I was able to finally work from home
✨ create flexibility in my schedule
✨ be more present with my kids
✨ and build something of my own

It was everything I had wanted for so long. It didn’t happen overnight.

But it also wasn’t as complicated as I once thought.

If you’re a mom who has been feeling that pull…

Wanting something different.
Wanting more freedom.
Wanting to work in a way that actually fits your life…

You’re not alone in that.

And you don’t have to have everything figured out to begin.

A Simple Place to Start

If you’re curious about what appointment setting is, how it works, and how to get started, I put together a simple step-by-step guide that walks through everything I learned. Something I wish I had when I first started looking into this type of role.
